Shri Narendrabhai Modi

Shri Narendra Damodardas Modi,  was born on September 17, 1950 at Vadnagar town in Mehsana District of north Gujarat. His mother's name is Hiraben who fondly brought him up. From his boyhood, Narendra was bubbling with enthusiasm to do something for the cause of the nation.This patriotic fervor and nationalist spirit made him leave Vadnagar , his home town. At the age of 17 in 1967 he came to Ahmedabad and approached the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) office and from there he pursued higher studies and obtained the Master Degree in the Political Science.

Then started 'Navnirman' movement in 1974 and he had and opportunity to arouse hidden leadership within him. Thus he plunged into active politics and carved niche.

Recognising his potential, the party leadership made him the General Secretary of the state unit in 1988-89. Here he actively participated in Somnath to Ayodhya Rathyatra led by national party leader Shri L. K. Advani and subsequently Kanyakumari to Kashmir Ekta Yatra lead by Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi.

From 1989 to 1995, Shri Modi was in-charge of the election campaign and during this period BJP lotus bloomed and blossomed culminating into the installation of the party's own Government with two-third majority in 1995 assembly--election in the state.

In the later half of 1995, the Party High Command asked him to shoulder the responsibility at the national level and was made the national secretary of the party in charge of various states. From 1998, Shri Modi has been working as the national General Secretary of the party.

During his political career spanning over three decades, Shri Modi has emerged as a successful organizer, thought provoking orator, expert strategist and astute political thinker. During emergency in 1977, Shri Modi mobilized underground activities in defiance of emergency and arrest of nation leader. Shri Modi has contributed many articles in newspapers and magazines. He has also authored "Sangharsh Ma Gujarat", "Setubandha" and "Patrarup Guruji". Well traveled in India and abroad, Shri Modi has emerged as a prominent political leader in the 21st century. Because of his rare organizational capacities, Shri Modi has acquired a permanent place in the national politics. In a short span of time, he has won the favour of BJP national leaders like Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Shri L.K. Advani. His return to Gujarat has electrified the spirit of BJP youths and the State party leaders are confident that the morale boosting effect of this charismatic leadership will benefit the party.
